Battle of the Bonuses

Malaysia: Bonus 1 month, with minimum of RM1,500.

Ref: Bajet 2007

Singapore: Bonus 2.7 months plus S$220 one off special payment.

And the news just announced that civil servants' salaries will be reviewed and adjusted next year to "bring them in line" to be "competitive" with the private sector.

If public sector remuneration is an indicator of economic performance, and the fact that Malaysia has 1 million civil servants (1:26 people) compared to Singapore's 60,000 (1:67) - I can't say that I'm surprised.

How about if they first bring up their standard to 10% competitive with the private sector?
