Teo Nie Ching for Serdang

UPDATE 9 March 2008: YB Teo Nie Ching wins Serdang.

“I will not sell you out. I will speak up for your rights in Parliament. That’s what an MP must do. Not inspecting drains, garbage bins and dumps. That is the job of the municipal council. If they don’t do their job, sack them and stop wasting taxpayers’ money.”

“The serious business in Parliament affects not only us immediately but our future generations. We cannot afford to have MPs who remain silent just because it may incur the wrath of big brother – Umno.”
So says 27 year old lawyer Teo Nie Ching, DAP candidate for the parliamentary seat of Serdang, Selangor - as quoted by The Sun.

And I agree. That's what MPs are for. They represent you, the people, when it comes to matters of national significance... ie. the constitution, the laws of the land and govt policy. And some of you want MPs chained to your little towns and villages, and make sure the street lights switch on each night.

It's one thing to 'turun padang' in order to gauge the mood and see the situation of the common folk first hand. But it's quite another thing for MPs to spend all their time in the 'padang' picking up litter and cutting grass, while the whole country 'masuk longkang'. The parliament (legislature) are there to keep the govt (executive) in check, while the judiciary forms the 3rd leg in the tripod, that is the separation of powers. When our judiciary is saturated with stooges planted by the executive (govt), it becomes even more crucial that the legislature takes on an active role to oversee both the executive and judiciary. And the only way that can happen is to ensure that the proxies of govt executive (ie. BN) do not have a 2/3 majority in parliament.

I'm impressed by Teo's candour in her 'ceramah' to her constituents. Unlike many other candidates (both BN and Opposition), she says exactly what the duties of a MP are in no uncertain terms. She tells it like it is even if it might alienate some short sighted constituents. Brains, beauty and what looks like integrity too. Good on ya!

Hi, I am Teo Nie Ching.

“I am aware that there are not as many of my posters in Bangi comparing with BN’s candidate. I represent the opposition party in this election, and you would appreciate that we have limited resources. Serdang Parliamentary seat is a big area, and I am confined by limited resources to put up more posters. Trust me, the lesser posters in Bangi (comparing with BN) does not in any way show disrespect to Bangi residents. It only shows that DAP has limited resources for campaign. It doesn’t mean I don’t have the heart to serve you. You would notice that I do not have so many posters around even in Chinese Area in Balakong or Sri Kembangan.

Recognizing my limited resources and treasuring the importance of Bangi residents, I have made it very clear to the residents of Sri Kembangan and Balakong on last week in a ceramah that I could not be there as often as they expect. I publicly sought their pardon for lesser visit in the remaining days of campaigning. I told the residents (mostly Chinese) that I want to be Serdang MP, which means I cannot neglect residents in Bangi. This statement were made to the public, and was reported in Chinese Newspapers.

I put my words into action. I have been in Bangi nearly everyday, visiting morning and night Market and organizing ceramah. I do not believe the abundance of posters proves determination to serve. I choose to prove my will by action, which I did. I have prepared handbills and other promotional material, containing information of my oath to people of Serdang. They would be distributed primarily in Bangi area. These, I believe, are more valuable and would be of greater assistance to the residents in making their decision (comparing to spending money on posters).

Ms. Teo,

My wife and I are no longer staying in Balakong. But be assured that we are coming back to Balakong to vote this election.

Our hope is that you will carry out all that you say you would do. Our hope is that you will be fearless in discharging your duties and to be our voice in the Parliament.

Please do not let us down. Our votes are with you.

NN, appreciate if you can review all the request below, some i see can be done easily others might take awhile:
1)review all the narrow road in SK and serdang, make some of them one way
2)patch up lubang2 in several major road such as from TBS industrial road towards Section 8,9, 10
3)poor maintenance of the trees towards section 8, 9, 10
4)no maintenance on the tress from the slip road from Astro towards the Industrial lots, lighting is there but the trees need a hair cut
5) no more apartments/condominium in areas such as section 8, 9 and 10, see the traffic yourself...
6) road leading from the industrial areas towards section 8, 9 and 10 should be review and straigthen up or have the owner there move out.

This are some of the request for now. Hope to see some results soon. best wishes.

Hello Teo Nie Ching

I am a Malay and i hope you re not regret with some of the Malay's negative opinion on you. Basically Malay and headache already with BN and i personally support DAP principes and opinions.

We cannot abandon any poor people just because they are Chinese or Indian. We must help every people who need it.

I reject Racist party like BN and supprort for more Multiracial parties like DAP, PAS and PKR.

But i like to advise DAP members or MP to show a little respect to Islam and Sultan, because these are very sensitive issues to Malays. If DAP manage to avoid talking negatively about it, i believe Malays are not see DAP as threat to them anymore.

Hope u can accept this as an advice from a Malays DAP voters.

Thank u, good luck in Parliment.
